Today is finally here! Last night was like the night before Christmas, so excited for the morning to come and get moving on our few hiking / training days leading up to an ascent of Longs Peak with Team Force Factor: RMNP! Following a training session with the great folks at Leave No Trace, we’ll be heading to our base camp at the trail head of Longs Peak and then moving out to Blue Lake for some local hikes today, before an early start tomorrow in the Mummy Range and then of course the 9/11 summit!
We’ll do our best to update from day to day, or at the very least, post all our updates when we get back! Its a bit of a trying time in Boulder County as we’ve lost over 7,000 acres and 92 structures to the fires that started in 4-Mile Canyon on Sunday. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and friends who have lost homes, land, and pets, and of course to the fantastic emergency responders and volunteer firefighters, firefighters, helicopter crews and everyone else involved to bring this to safety!
Yesterday I was at the Rocky Mountain National Park headquarters to finalize our permits and they let us know we should be safe and sound for the coming week and weekend. This means we will continue forward with our mission to climb to the top of Longs Peak on 9/11! If anything changes, we will let you know. We will be in constant contact with the National Park Service and the safety of our veterans is our number one priority! Veterans Expeditions wants to also send out a big shout of thanks to the great staff at Rocky Mountain National Park for being so helpful in our quick transition of objectives from Mt. Shasta to Longs Peak. Thanks Kyle!
We have, thankfully, dozens of other supporters, friends, and folks who have helped us get this far and we’ll make sure we thank each and everyone of you in the days to come!
Thanks for all your support so far and we’ll meet you at the top!
